How to Replace Split Bathroom Silicone

Split bathroom silicone is a real nuisance for bathrooms. It ruins the look of a bathroom suite but also leads to leaks and gives bathroom mould and dirt a nice cosy place to live. For these reasons its best to replace splitting sealant as soon as possible. Here’s how to do so…

Removing bathroom silicone

The easiest way to remove silicone sealant is to wait until the bath or other area in question is completely dry and then use a utility knife and a scraper to loosen and drag away the sealant. Just take care not to scratch the surrounding tiles, bath, etc.

Once the bulk of the silicone has come away take a clean rag and some white spirit and rub it over the residual silicone to remove any ruminants.

Applying bathroom silicone

The reason why bathroom silicone splits in the first place is mainly down to its age (wear and tear) and how it is applied.
