Update your Bathroom on a Budget

If you watch the news, and I tend not to because it depresses me, then you will have noticed that we are currently flying through some economic turbulence. Most of us have empty pockets at the moment and this is annoying if like your mobile phone your bathroom could do with an upgrade.

Outside the box

It just takes a bit of lateral thinking to update your bathroom and make it seem, if not the latest thing, at least a model or two up from the one you have already got.

As I mentioned recently stickers are a great cheap way of making your bathroom look snazzy.

A few on the radiators, the tiles, maybe even on the shower enclosure can brighten up the room and give it some pizzazz and it will hardly cost anything.

The same is true if you are a dab hand with the paintbrush. Paint some designs on the splash back tiles behind your basin and it will really freshen it up.

Inside the box

The obvious way to update your bathroom without changing your bath, basin or toilet is to just repaint the walls.

You can also repaint the tiles so that you have a matching colour scheme. It is amazing how just by changing the colour scheme your bathroom can make it feel like a completely new room.

Invest in a new set of towels, a soap dish, get a new bathroom mirror and all of sudden you are improving the room by stealth rather than wealth.

They may only be little things but good design is not necessarily about the centrepiece but what lies around it. So whilst the bath, basin and toilet remain unchanged the deft updates to other areas you make will subtly improve them.

Adding boxes

You can add things to the room to change it. It may be your intention to send your bathroom back in time and buy some old bathroom furniture to give it that period touch.

A saunter round the antique shops and car boot sales will unearth some bargains and a new, or should that be old, cabinet will be just the thing to add some class to your room.

Just by adding a few shelves will be useful as just by clearing the clutter a bathroom can appear like new.

These are just a few ideas but with a bit of imagination your bathroom can be great again.
