Ways to Update your Bathroom

I recently wrote about how I updated my bathroom. Inspired by an heirloom I set about the task of completely redesigning it and revitalising it at the same time.

Yet, you can bring a spark back into the room and it need not cost a fortune. I replaced everything, bath, sink and basin because I had to do it. With a bit of imagination you can freshen up your bathroom and I don’t just mean the smell.

Art

Some people may think that this is not a room for art. Because it is a functional room it does not mean you have to treat it as such. You can spend a lot of time in the bathroom and there is no reason why the walls should not look nice.

I am not going to say what sort of art you should place on the wall as that is a matter of personal taste. However please be aware that if you are lying in the bath you want to look at something that is appealing.

A friend of mine is a heavy metal fan and he had a skull hanging on his bathroom wall which was disconcerting when one went to the toilet as this emaciated face was staring straight at you.

Fixtures and fittings

It may be surprising to see how a new vanity unit can suddenly brighten up a bathroom. Or some other piece of bathroom furniture can just add a bit of sparkle.

I bought a wooden ottoman so I had a place to store my towels. It is a great piece of furniture in itself and placed at the end of the bathroom it adds a bit of class to the room. It is essentially a wooden box but the design is such that it fits in and it adds an extra something to the room.

Add some extra towel rails or get yourself a bathroom organiser to place your odds and ends in and you will suddenly brighten up the room.

Simple things

Even if you just buy some new towels it can help to bring your bathroom up to date. A multi-coloured soap dish will add a splash of colour.

You could buy a nice pot to hold your toothbrushes and toothpaste or add an extra shelf to the wall. It may only seem a little thing but it can help bring a room to life.

If you have a member of the family who likes to read in the bath or on the toilet a little bookcase could add a sense of style to the room.

There are loads of little touches you can make to improve your bathroom.
