Modern Bathrooms

We’ve all seen the makeover shows where they take over a house and redesign the rooms. Sometimes they do so to impressive effect then there are occasions where the house owner covers their face with their hands and bursts into uncontrollable tears of anguish.

Here are a few brief ideas for a modern bathroom design without the need for a television crew and an overpaid presenter to invade your house.

Walls

Before we talk about the design of the main parts of your bathroom, that is the bath, shower, sink and toilet we need to think about the walls.

If you want a contemporary look you might want to think about a feature wall. For instance, you can get some trendy tiles and place them on the wall behind the basin. It will make that part of your bathroom look sassy and smart and help you towards achieving an über-cool feel.

Don’t be afraid of colour for your walls either. It does not have to be white in the bathroom. Blue or Green can make your bathroom look snazzy and chic.

Bath

The focal point of a modern bathroom is the bath. It should be the centrepiece of the room and stand out as a design statement in itself.

You will want a freestanding bath placed towards the centre of the room. This is what the visitor should see first and it will perhaps spark a tiny bit of jealousy in him or her.

There all sorts of bath designs that can look stunning but I recently saw a modern style bathroom which used a wonderful oval shaped bath as its focal point.

Taps

Design is often about simplicity and knowing where to draw the lines. Often you can tell someone with a bad eye for design because they do too much rather than just enough.

The same is true of the taps in your modern bathroom. They should not be ostentatious but minimalistic and if possible they should simply emerge from the wall so they are more effective.

As the effect you are looking for is unfussy style and elegance your taps should reflect this fact.

Sink

A square basin will look the most minimalistic and modern. Whilst the bath will be the stand out part of the room the sink should also be classy.

If you are going for a harmonious look to your room then your basin should match the design you have chosen for your bath.

Yet it can also work if you have a sink that is a completely different style to your bath. This gives it a very modern ‘made up as it goes along’ vibe that can work extremely well.

The key to the whole design should be simplicity so you can create a stimulating and elegant modern bathroom.
