The mythological creature, the Griffin, had the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. If you think about that in design terms then you will realise that it would not really work. There is no way such a creature could fly.
There were people who believed such a animal existed and then it was shown to be a myth. In the same way there are myths about bathroom design. As if there is a rule book of do’s and don’ts that they have to follow when putting their bathroom together.
Matching everything
What happens when you watch a TV drama? People clash, they argue and they fight. It would be boring if everyone in EastEnders got on wouldn’t it?
While your bathroom is not a soap opera (although hopefully there is soap in your bathroom) all the walls and surfaces do not have to get along. Black and white works great in bathrooms and there is nothing to say that the colour of your bath has to be the same as the rest of your bathroom.
Different colours create interest and a bathroom that is all the same colour would be dull.
It won’t be worth all the hassle
Some people think that improving their bathroom does not increase the value of their property. Despite the fact that every DIY show on the telly, every housing expert on the news tells them that this is a fact they still won’t believe it.
Even though next door did up their bathroom and made a tidy profit on their house they still don’t think it is worth the hassle. Research has shown that if you do up your kitchen and bathroom you significantly increase the price you can ask for your house.
You should follow fashion
Certainly, look through the home style magazines and watch the TV DIY shows for inspiration but you don’t have to follow their lead. As everybody knows fashions come and go and what might seem cutting edge and up-to-date when you do it will look old hat after a couple of years.
Remember it was not that long ago avocado bathrooms were all the rage. The most important thing that your bathroom design should express is not the current fashion but your personality as you will be using it every day.
Everything has to be expensive or cheap
There seems to be a view that when re-designing a bathroom that everything has to be either top of the range or cheap. As if there was no middle way.
You can invest in an expensive bath but there is no reason why you can’t pick up a cheap bathroom mirror and that they won’t go to together. Work out the parts of your bathroom you want to spend money on and where you can make savings.
Now we have debunked a few myths your bathroom design can fly.
